I am having some problems creating a 10.2.0.4/18.104.22.168 DB on top of ASM 22.214.171.124 using dbca. I can't get passed step 7 when I select ASM as storage.
Here are the steps that I've done:
- Install a 2 node 126.96.36.199 RAC cluster with ASM and Clusterware, this worked fine.
- Set the parameter 'DB Compatibility' to 10.1.0.0.0 on the disk groups in ASM.
- Installed & configured a 188.8.131.52 Database on this cluster, this worked fine.
- Installed 10.2.0.1 DB software in separate Oracle Home.
- Upgraded the 10.2 installation to 10.2.0.4.
- Installed 184.108.40.206 DB software in separate Oracle Home.
- Upgraded the 11.1 installation to 220.127.116.11.
Now, when I run dbca (this occurs both from the 10.2 and 11.1 O_H) at step 7 in the Wizard I select "Select ASM as Storage" then when I press next I get this error message:
'DBCA could not startup the ASM instance configured on this node. To proceed with database creation using ASM you need the ASM instance to be up and running. Do you want to recreate the ASM instance on this node?'
In the dbca log file I can see "ASM present but not startable, querying user.."
What do I need to do in order to be able to create a 10.2 DB on 11.2 ASM? I have also tried to set TNS_ADMIN to the network/admin directory under the grid infrastructure, however, this did not work eitther, I still get the same problem.
Any ideas what measures I need to do in order to be able to create a 10.2 / 11.1 DB on top of the 11.2 Grid Infrastructure?
I am experiencing the exact same issue and have been through the same troubleshooting steps. I was even able to create a single instance 10g database using DBCA as it prompted for the ASM credentials. Has anyone had success creating a 10g RAC database in the 11.2 grid infrastructure?
# if you are running dbca in a RAC env and get the error below, and Oracle NOTE ID 436827.1 does not help, check this.
# Change the ASM entry in /etc/oratab to include the instance thread.
# Like this. Do this on all nodes of a RAC instance.
# ERROR dialog in dbca when selecting an existing ASM instance.
# DBCA could not startup the ASM instance configured on this node.
# To proceed with database create using ASM you need the ASM instance to be up and running.
# Do you want to recreate the ASM instance on this node?
# !!!!!!MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE IT BACK AFTER THE DBCA HAS BEEN RUN!!!!!!
While running dbca from 10.2.0.4 DB HOME on 11GR2 Clusterware( ASM HOME) I was getting this error. Here are the steps to solve the issue.
*1>*To run older databases on 11gR2 ASM and Clusterware you need to create a persistent configuration for the nodes on which these databases are meant to run. This is called pinning a node.
To pin a node in preparation for installing an older Oracle Database version, use <Grid_home>/bin/crsctl with the following command syntax, where nodes is a space-delimited list of one or more nodes in the cluster whose configuration you want to pin:
crsctl pin css -n nodes
To list all pinned nodes:
olsnodes -t -n
*2>* Create a link for 10G_DB_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora to 11G_GRID_HOME/ network/admin/endpoints_listener.ora
ln –s <11G_GRID_HOME>/network/admin/endpoints_listener.ora listener.ora
