If you are truly using redhat, the choices for fetching additional rpm's are using the CD/DVD, or using redhat's up2date channel (paid service)

xorg-x11-deprecated-libs should be included on the media you used to install Linux on your system. If you don't have the media anymore, you can probably find it online with a search engine, or you can setup your system to install packages from http://public-yum.oracle.com/

herb, please mind it's probably not a good idea to point someone to the oracle public yum server without knowing what kind of distro they are using, and mixing rpm's isn't a good idea either.

if someone exactly knows what he is doing, it can be a valid choice, but then it wouldn't been asked in this forum.

              Frits,

Although I would generally agree with you, I don't think a RedHat Linux install would have any problems with the Oracle Enterprise Linux packages. They are binary compatible, and built from the exact same source.

If anyone should be worried, it's the people trying to install Oracle products on distributions like Fedora.

Wouldn't the dependencies get broken because of the different numbering scheme of OEL? (if the package either has a dependency or is a package depended upon on rpm level; the oracle installer doesn't use the numbering, so both redhat & oel work)

On Ubuntu 8 Hardy Heron AMD if you are trying to install 32 bit Oracle 10g you will need these libraries to get OUI to run

                  apt-get install libxp6
                  apt-get install libxt6
                  apt-get install libxtst6

                    Hello,

I am very new to Linux.

I installed Oracle Enterprise Linux and version is (cat /proc/version):
                    Linux version 2.6.18-8.el5 (mockbuild@ca-build14) (gcc version 4.1.1 20070105 (Red Hat 4.1.1-52)) #1 SMP Tue Jun 5 23:11:13 EDT 2007

Trying to install EM Agent 10.2.0.5.0. Got the same error (subj).

On the Linux installation CD I find a lot of xorg-x11......rpm, but none with name like xorg-x11-deprecated....rpm. So, what exactly my next steps are?

                    Looking forward for any help,
                    Best regards,
                    Nikolajus

Can you post the exact error you are getting?

Most likely you will need to use yum to install the missing libraries. It should be easy but to avoid confusion post the message please.

My worries are (I very very new to Linux), as far as I know, yum is not used on all distributions, and I think on this one it is not used, because there are rpms. But dont know where to find appropriate rpm (not found on installation DVD). Any help please?

                        Regards,

Just noticed, that forum is 'Linux (non-OEL)', but I am using Oracle Enterprise Linux... But help really needed!

                          Hi,
I got some answers to my problems from this thread, so I summarize also here what I have done. I have x64 RHEL 5.4 operating system.

                          1. Add the following lines to /home/oracle/.bash_profile
                          umask 022
                          export ORACLE_BASE=/opt/oracle
                          export ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/10.2
                          export ORACLE_SID=ORCL
                          export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib32:/usr/X11R6/lib
                          (especially LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes /usr/X11R6/lib )

                          2. I run the command:
                          rpm -q binutils compat-db compat-libstdc++-33 glibc glibc-devel glibc-headers gcc gcc-c++ libstdc++ cpp make libaio ksh elfutils-libelf sysstat libaio libaio-devel setarch --qf '%{name}.%{arch}\n'|sort
--> it lists all mentioned packages and tells if they are not installed. I installed all missing packages from RHEL 5.4 DVD. I think I run at least 10 different rpms.
                          ie. rpm -ivh "/media/RHEL_5.4 x86_64 DVD/Server/gcc-4.1.2-46.el5.x86_64.rpm"

                          3. Also I download xorg-x11-deprecated-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.6.i386.rpm file from web and installed it.
                          Search word "download xorg-x11-deprecated-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.6.i386.rpm"

                          4. And because I have used Windows OS more, I rebooted this server also. :)

                          Regards
                          T

Package "libXtst (i386)" in RHEL/OEL 5 will be automatically installed with "Default RPMs" installation type. If RHEL/OEL 5 is not installed with "Default RPMs" Installation type, then please install missing package "libXtst (i386)" and then re-try 10gR2 installation.
