    Data Guard on RAC

    Maoro
      hello
      when setting up data guard, if the primary clustered database is already in archive log mode,
      is there a need to restart both cluster instances when we update the spfile parameters for data guard ?
      or we can simply add the data guard parameters to the spfile while both cluster instances are online ?

      thank you

          Hi,
          Yes I feel we have two restart both the instances in order for change to take effect.

          Best regards,

          Rafi.

            even if the parameters are dynamic , like simply the archiving destination ?

              Hi,
              You dont have to shutdown any instance, just issue following commands to prepare the primary database for Data Guard (Customize the values according to your environment):

              alter system set log_file_name_convert='+FLASH/tstsb,'+FLASH/tstp','+DATA/tstsb','+DATA/tstp' scope=spfile sid='*';
              alter system set db_file_name_convert='+DATA/tstsb','+DATA/tstp' scope=spfile sid='*';
              alter system set dg_broker_config_file1='+DATA/TSTP/dgbroker/dg_config_file1.dat' sid='*';
              alter system set dg_broker_config_file2='+FLASH/TSTP/dgbroker/dg_config_file2.dat' sid='*';
              alter system set dg_broker_start=FALSE sid='*';
              alter system set fal_client='TSTP1' sid='tstp1';

                sorry i am confused guys, is there a need to bounce the instances ?

                  Hi ,
                  Can you sustain downtime for sometime?.If so you can bounce or else follow the other method changing each parameter dynamically.

                  Best regards,

                  Rafi.

                        One more question,
                        is there any site that offer an oracle RAC for testing ? like solutionbeacon for oracle apps
                        that would be great to try out oracle rac without having to install it locally
                        thanks
