          Hello,

Except if you installed Oracle XE you need License for Production database.

There're several kind of Licenses ( Processor and User named License) and, the way you count the Processor depends on the Edition ( Standard or Enterprise ).

In SE or SE1 you count the socket in EE you count the core. In this last case you have to use the Core Factor Table so as to know the value of the Core Factor for your Processor.

The query below may help you to know what you need for your database:
          select * from v$license;
Please, find enclosed some links about License Policy:

          http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/Oracle_Licensing

          http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf

          http://www.oracle.com/corporate/contracts/library/processor-core-factor-table.pdf

Else, you may ask to Oracle Sale Service for more informations.

NB: To know if you are in SE, or EE you can execute this:
          select banner from v$version where BANNER like '%Edition%';
          Hope this help.
          Best regards,
          Jean-Valentin

There is no view in Oracle database which would tell you that the copy of database is licensed or not. Because its not like some windows which ask for serial number or registration number

            regards

Sheesh - another person who sprays duplicates of the question all over the place. A single copy of the question, waiting around for a decent amount of time (at least a day) would be sufficient. Copying my answer from the other response:

Technically there is no difference between the same version of the 'licensed' and 'unlicensed' installation. (Actually, there is no such thing as 'unlicensed' - you agree to a no-fee developer license when you download it.)

No time bombs, nag screens or functional limitations. No need to Jail Break anything.

In practice the developer license does not give you access to Support and therefore no Patches. And therefore you will be living with bugs and potential security holes. Whether that is important is quite another story.
and How to verify that installed database is licensed ?
You will be able to go to your bank account or credit card statement and see a payment to Oracle. And you will get a 50 gazillion page contract, all in fine print, that tells you what you have bought and what you agree to do and use.

You are on your honour to follow the details of that fine document. You may note that with all licenses, you agree that Oracle can visit you to confirm that you are indeed honouring your agreement. And if not, you have the opportunity to 'splain why not in front of a judge.

Form Oracle 10G, DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS view shows the usage of the various enabled and used features of the database.

                This view shows :
                - The name of the enabled feature
                - The database version the feature was tracked in
                - Number of times the system has detected usage for the feature
                - Number of times the system has woken up and checked for usage
                - If usage of that feature was detected the last time the system checked
                - The first time the system detected usage for the feature
                - The last time the system detected usage for the feature
                - The last time the system checked for usage
                - The amount of time between the last two usage sample times, in number of seconds
                - Brief description of the feature and the usage detection logic.

None of which means your a legally licensed to use those features.

The license exists only as a legal contract outside of your database. Hopefully it exists in a file drawer in your company's legal office.

file drawer? No, that now exists in the Oracle UCM repository :)

In my case, the original was sent on paper. SO the UCM only contains a copy and is available only after scanning.
