Neither of them are supported. XP has never been certified as server, and Windows 7 is not (yet?) certified.
To stay on Windows OS, Windows 2003 64bit and Windows 2008 64bit are certified within PT8.50. Windows 2008R2 64bit is planned to be certified, but appararently Windows 7 is not.

            Thanks!!

Even though it's not supported on XP Pro, can Peopletools 8.5 be installed on XP? This is just for evaluation purpose.

Tech Update - Oracle Plans Windows 7 Certification with PeopleSoft

January 29, 2010. PeopleSoft Enterprise is currently performing a certification of Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 7. Windows 7 is a client operating system so only client components will be certified on it - no batch or server components will be certified. This certification project will closely resemble what we have done in the past with other client operating systems like Windows XP and Vista.

The certification will consist of two phases; first, Windows 7 will be certified as a browser client with Internet Explorer 8. Second, Windows 7 will be certified for a PeopleSoft development client, including design tools such as Application Designer, Data Mover, Change Assistant, Change Impact Analyzer, Application Engine, nVision, XML Publisher, SQR, etc.

Our certification policy, as documented in Oracle's application lifetime support, outlines that PeopleTools 8.49 and 8.50 are currently eligible for platform certifications. Both 8.49 and 8.50 are planned to be certified with Windows 7. The PeopleTools 8.1x code line (which also includes 8.2x) will not be certified with Windows 7.

Provided no significant issues are found, we plan to have the browser client certification completed by the end of March, 2010. The development client certification is currently planned for second quarter of 2010.

Might as well answer my own question

Tech Update - Windows 7 Certified as a Browser Client with PeopleSoft

Apr 6, 2010.  Windows 7, using Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.5, has recently been certified as a browser client for PeopleTools 8.49 and 8.50.  This marks the completion of the first phase of our Windows 7 certification as outlined in an earlier Tech Update, Note:1056069.1.  The second phase, where we plan to certify the PeopleSoft development client with Windows 7, is scheduled to be completed by the end of the second calendar quarter of 2010 - provided no major issues are encountered.

Similar to other Windows client operating systems, no server or batch components will be certified with Windows 7.  These components have been certified with Microsoft's recent server operating system, Windows 2008, and are also planned to be certified with Windows 2008 R2 in the second calendar quarter of 2010.

Microsoft does not support IE 7 with Windows 7, so there are no plans to certify this combination with PeopleSoft.  Also, PeopleTools 8.48 and prior releases are no longer being patched, so they are not eligible for new certifications.

Even for Installing PT 8.50 client tools we need CRT (C Run time) files to be installed before we start.

Here is the procedure to install:

                    1. Go to PS_HOME\setup\vcredist.
                    2. Run vcredist_x86.exe.
                    The installation is completed automatically.
                    3. Test by starting any Windows client PeopleTools application such as Configuration Manager
