Does JVM debugging options have any performance overhead ?

There's a JVM startup option called '-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError' which I have permanently added to my application start-up.

Sun officially categorizes it under 'Debugging Options' (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/vmoptions-jsp-140102.html), which is what raising a doubt in my mind whether or not using this option has any performance overhead in normal scenario.

Pls shed some light if anyone know more on that aspect ..
