    Expired Microsoft Certificate for Applet that has no Microsoft Certificate

      I self-signed an applet, FontViewer .
      After two warning dialog boxes, it runs fine on both Firefox and IE8.
      (The signature will be needed for other versions of FontViewer.)

      What I do not understand is the first dialog box. It states
      The application's digital signature has an error.
      Do you want to run the application?
      The publisher is given as Microsoft.
      And yet there is nothing about the Applet that has anything to do with Microsoft.
      The Certificate chain has only my own signature;
      the second dialog box complains about that.

      The details for the offending dialog box are these
      Version V3
      Serial Number [159710878728337540029965131499009205191]
      Sig. Alg [SHA1withRSA]
      Issuer CN=VeriSign Class 3 Code Signing 2001 CA,
      OU=Terms of use at https://www.verisign.com/rpa (c)01,
      OU=VeriSign Trust Network, O="VeriSign, Inc."
      Validity [From: Sun Dec 29 19:00:00 EST 2002,

      Subject CN=Microsoft Corporation, OU=Operations,
      OU=Digital ID Class 3 - Netscape Object Signing,
      O=Microsoft Corporation, L=Redmond, ST=Washington, C=US
      SHA1 Fingerprint 85:AB:E7:6A:8C:DA:16:ED:40:A4:8A:9C:FF:CC:A5:5D:77:B5:0F:88
      Why is this dialog box appearing?
      How can I prevent it?

      Note that signature is needed.
