Accessing Windows USB (serial) ports with JAVA

I'm a bit of a JAVA newbie, so please bear with me...

I've been looking for a way to read/write to a USB (serial) port in Windows. I've found a couple of articles on the +"old"+ forum about it, however they seem to disagree and left me a little confused (and they appear to be somewhat dated).

It seems that I can use the APIs in javax.comm along with the Win32comm DLL. Can someone explain what I need to put where (part of the disparate info on the +"old"+ forum)... and also coach me on how to use the APIs? (code samples would be absolutely wonderful!!).

I'm guessing that once I put the DLL in the correct place, I can use the API to address the USB port by it's COMM Port Number.
