What hardware to use for java realtime?

First of all I want to control 24V Digital I/O devices such as valves etc... Who out there knows good inexpensive digital i/o that has java libraries written for the i/o so I can try implementing java RT? I would love to get rid of the plc's because my system requires a pc anyway. I will be using ubuntu as OS the i/o can be pci, usb, or ethernet.

Thanks,

Dominic

Sun produces a single system (Blue Wonder) you might be able to use right out of the box. It's very new so we don't have much written material yet but check out this video.
