    ILOM "set: unable to configure network" error

    keesor
      This is what I'm doing...

      set /SP/network state=enabled
      set /SP/services/ssh state=enabled
      set /SP/network pendingipdiscovery=static
      set /SP/network pendingipaddress=192.xxx.xxx.xxx
      set /SP/network pendingipgateway=192.xxx.xxx.xxx
      set /SP/network pendingipnetmask=255.255.255.0
      set /sp/network commitpending=true

      I then get the error:

      set: unable to configure network

      Anyone have any ideas what's wrong?

      Thanks,
      Matt

          Well, this may not be it but shouldn't the SP be capitalized in the last line where you do the commit?

          I am having the same problem but I always go to the /SP/network directory to make changes so I don't have to type in the /SP/network with every line and more because the instructions said to do so.

            Hi

            same to me.

            I have 2 x4200, one is working fine the other says set: unable to configure network when I try
            to do set commitpending=true

            It would be great if anyone has a workaround for that.

            Thank you and best regards
            Rolf

              Same problem on an x4500 . . .

              What is the likely entry for pendingipgateway if it's an isolated network? I've tried 0.0.0.0, the address of the ILOM interface, and the address of the dedicated management network interface on my desktop machine, but always get "unable to configure network". I guess it's not necessarily complaining about the gateway address.

              Also, I'm surprised that there's no value for "macaddress" in the following output from "show":

              -> show

              /SP/network
              Targets:

              Properties:
              commitpending = (Cannot show property)
              ipaddress = (none)
              ipdiscovery = (none)
              ipgateway = (none)
              ipnetmask = (none)
              macaddress = (none)
              pendingipaddress = 10.20.30.13
              pendingipdiscovery = static
              pendingipgateway = 10.20.30.13
              pendingipnetmask = 255.255.255.0

              Commands:
              cd
              set
              show

              The show command takes almost 2 minutes to complete. The lights on the ethernet switch indicate contentment with the connection to the ILOM network port.

              (Sheesh. Almost a year and no answers here yet.)

                I believe you need to reset the ILOM for the changes to take effect and be moved out of the pending state.

                    A solution, but not necessarily an explanation:

                    I think the key in my situation was the lack of mac address displayed in the "show /SP/network". I believe this indicated that an extraordinary reset was required, which, in my case, was accomplished by power cycling the SP (by removing the power plugs and replacing them). I don't know that this was a necessary reset, but it was sufficient to get the mac address to display on my next attempt and for everything to configure following the procedures in the manuals.

                    Again, this was for an X4500

                      Hi,

                      I think you should first upgrade the ILOM firmware as the last version is the 2.0.2.5 and since the 1.1.8 a lot of
                      bugs has been solved.

                      You can find this here :

                        I am having the same problem with a Sun T5120 server.

                        my ILOM parameters are :

                        -> show /SP/network

                        /SP/network
                        Targets:

                        Properties:
                        commitpending = (Cannot show property)
                        dhcp_server_ip = none
                        ipaddress = 0.0.0.0
                        ipdiscovery = dhcp
                        ipgateway = 0.0.0.0
                        ipnetmask = 0.0.0.0
                        macaddress = 00:14:4F:D3:E5:1D
                        pendingipaddress = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
                        pendingipdiscovery = static
                        pendingipgateway = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
                        pendingipnetmask = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
                        state = enabled

                        My SP firmware is:
                        SP firmware 2.0.4.2
                        SP firmware build number: 24009
                        SP firmware date: Wed Oct 3 18:09:25 PDT 2007
                        SP filesystem version: 0.1.14

                        and I have performed the power cycling of the SP.

                        Any other solutions to the

                        -> set /SP/network commitpending=true
                        set: Unable to configure network

                        error??

                        Help

                        Thanks

                          A think that I am sure is you do not need to reset the ILOM to configure the network.

                          From memory this procedure always worked for me :
                           cd /SP/network
                          set pendingipaddress=192.168.X.X
                          set pendingipnetmask=255.255.255.0
                          set pendingipgateway=192.168.X.1
                          set pendingipdiscovery=static
                          set commitpending=true
                          For dhcp configuration, you have to set the pendingipdiscovery to dhcp :
                          cd /SP/network
                          set pendingipdiscovery=dhcp
                          set commitpending=true

                              Yes, I've gone through these steps... But when I attempt to "set commitpending=true" I get the "set unable to configure network" error and nothing in the ILOM settings change.

                              What can I do to get the commit to accept my changes??

                                Hi (thanks PhHein),

                                k.noe, I can see in your previous post "dhcp_server_ip" is set to "none". Have you try to set it up first and try a commitpending=true?

                                Schriemer, BPD_LDAP, ljg , have you solved your problem?

                                  Thanks for the reply. I don't have an IP address nor use a DHCP server to input into that value. I've other 5120 that have accepted ILOM changes and also have the dhcp_server_ip value set to none.

                                  Any thing else?

                                    Hi,

                                    You are in ILOM mode in your T5120, right?

                                    Perhaps you should try to configure your ILOM in static mode first, to check if your problem comes from your DHCP configuration :
                                    -> set /SP/network state=enabled
                                    -> set /SP/network pendingipdiscovery=static
                                    -> set /SP/network pendingipaddress=XX.XX.XX.XX
                                    -> set /SP/network pendingipnetmask=255.255.255.0
                                    -> set /SP/network pendingipgateway=XX.XX.XX.XX
                                    -> set /SP/network commitpending=true
                                    This is working? If yes, then :
                                    -> set/SP/network pendingipdiscovery=dhcp
                                    -> set /SP/network commitpending=true
                                    If you have a problem with these steps, I think you should contact your Sun Support contact.
