How is the problem resolved?
We are having the same problem.
How can we install patch 137111-01 on Solaris 10 8/07 before 8/07 installed on the system?
Is there a way to bundle 137111-01 on Solaris 10 8/07 DVD?
After struggling with the same issue, I have the resolution so I'm posting for future reference.
Per document 820-3876-10 (shipped with the system and the "Recovery CD"), you CANNOT load from media (CD/DVD) as mentioned under the "To use the Recovery Patch CD With the Solaris 10 08/07 OS Media DVDs" heading. Step one fails, done.
The only way to get the OS loaded that I am aware of is to use a Jumpstart server, and either modify an existing Sol10u4 distribution or if maintaing patch install consistency is critical, create a new jumpstart distribution path, update 4 plus patches.
Once you have your (new?) update 4 distrubution (add_install_client) you then must:
A) Get the 6 required patches (they are on the Recovery CD) (example: /cdrom could be $PATCH_DIR)
B) Install the 3 patches critical to boot the T5140 (125369, 125476, 127111) in the distribution
JumpServer # patchadd -C $JUMPSTART_DIST_DIR/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot /$PATCH_DIR/Solaris_10/Patches/125639*
JumpServer # patchadd -C $JUMPSTART_DIST_DIR/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot /$PATCH_DIR/Solaris_10/Patches/125476*
JumpServer # patchadd -C $JUMPSTART_DIST_DIR/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot /$PATCH_DIR/Solaris_10/Patches/127111*
This installs the patches on the kernel that gets loaded at boot, does not change OS installed
C) Copy the 6 required patches from the CD (or wherever) to the place the Jumpstart server looks when post OS install before rebooting
JumpServer # cp -R /$PATCH_DIR/Solaris_10/Patches/* $JUMPSTART_DIST_DIR/Solaris_10/Patches
Jumpstart then is bootable (per B) and automatically installs the required patches so it is bootable when Jumpstart completes.
There is no known option to load the OS from CD/DVD, I tried for days including working with Sun Support.
Creating a custom Jumpstart image/distribution (or modifying the existing one if acceptable) does work.
