When Oracle Database 9i or Oracle Database 10g is installed on an 11g release 2 (11.2) Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a cluster configuration, the Global Services daemon (GSD) is disabled by default.

                      See below doc...Postinstallation Procedures..

                        Hi,

We installed fresh installation. But before that we had database and cluster was 10g.
we removed 10g cluster and we reconfigure all servers and installed 11g rac.
                        could you please more specific.

                          Hi,

The function of GSD (10g and above) is to service requests for 9i RAC management clients and therefore when there are no 9i databases present, there is nothing for GSD to do.
Consequently, there will be no impact on a RAC cluster if GSD is offline and 9i is not used.

With Oracle Clusterware 11g Release 2, the GSD resource will be disabled by default and the service will show as target:offline, status:offline.

You only need to enable this resource if you are running Oracle 9i RAC in the cluster.

For more details see note below..

*GSD Is Used Only if 9i RAC Database is Present [ID 429966.1]*

                          Regards,

With Oracle RAC 11g Release 2, the gsd resource is disabled by default. You will only need to enable the resource if you are running Oracle 9i RAC in the same cluster.

So there is no need to run gsd and it is only for supporting 9i RAC database.

                            Regards
                            Rajesh

I would like to know if there are any more resources like GSD that are should be OFFLINE or in other state than ONLINE.

                                  Regards,
                                  Igor.

No. all of the other "default" services should be "ONLINE ONLINE".

I actually use an alias for my crsctl command called "check"

                                    alias mycrscheck="crs_stat -t |grep -v gsd"

That way I don't even see that line :)
