I've run into this problem as well. Any ideas?
This is because the update program did not update your VirtualStore files if you are using Windows Vista.
To fix this:
1. Open the folder "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Sun\StarOffice 8\program"
2. Delete all the files in the folder.
3. Start StarOffice 8
This is just a problem of displaying of version, you've already runnning Update 9 without fixing it, though.
