I am not sure about this specific problem, but i would like to pass on some pointers that may be of help:
- This issue has been reported at http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=121651 . You may want to add your comments and vote for the bug(you may also want to attach relevant information to the issue like ide log files, a sample project zipped up if possible etc). The log file can be found at: [nbuserdir]/var/log/messages.log. Of course you can also create a new bug at http://www.netbeans.org/issues/enter_bug.cgi?component=portalpack

- You can also check your log file to see if there are any relevant error messages and/or stacktraces that may provide a clue in diagnosing the situation.

Just tried this agian with netbeans 6.1 (build 200804211638) and portlet plugins 2.0.5 and Portlet 2.0 Hello World.
The renderRequest problem is still there.
Back in November 2007 I reported the issue to firstname.lastname@example.org

It was recognised as a bug but not sure if it got any further....
