For application server 8, the admin console uses the default realm, as defined by the attribute default-realm in security-service element (domain.xml). If you change the default-realm, then the admin console can not authenticate.
This has been fixed in the latest beta release (September 20, 2004). Admin console now uses its own realm called admin-realm.
Please try out the latest beta. See the annoncement at --
Thank you. This helps
I found the solution for this.
The default realm file realm) defines the admin console user as asadmin group members. After putting the user in this group, my custom realm is able to let user logon to admin console
I am using Sun JAva System application Server 8

What's the default user and passwd for the admin console? I have just installed the Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.1 2005Q1 on windows.
The previous versions are all using admin as default console user name and adminadmin for its password. Try this. I haven't try the 2005Q1 version yet. Hope this will help
Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, admin/adminadmin didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.
Previous reply was quite misleading - there is no such thing as default admin password for standalone installation of Application Server. Default values only apply to Application Server installation installed through Creator or NetBeans installer.
Otherwise, you have to specify admin user name and password at installation time. Admin username value is defaulted to "admin" so unless you changed it in your installation that should still apply. You had to enter explicit password values.
If you forgot those, you can either uninstall and reinstall or you can take a look at Troubleshooting Guide for instructions on reseting admin authentication:
we can use admin* for username and adminadmin* for pawwrod of sun server
it is correct and u can work with it without any problem
