Application Server (6.5) and Web Server (6.0) stop talking to each other

I hope somebody can help. At least once a day, we see problems where our webservers stop talking to our application servers. Activity in the access and kjs logs SEEMS normal. In the error logs I see a whole lot of the following errors when they stop talking:

[04/Jul/2006:11:22:39] info ( 8123): GXConn::GetNextBuffer() reports: invalid reply type received in GetNextBuffer (conn 0x368aff8, sock 0, host 0x0, port 0)
[04/Jul/2006:11:22:39] info ( 8123): GXConn::GetNextBuffer() reports: invalid reply type received in GetNextBuffer (conn 0x368aff8, sock 0, host 0x0, port 0)
[04/Jul/2006:11:22:39] info ( 8123): GXConn::GetNextBuffer() reports: invalid reply type received in GetNextBuffer (conn 0x368aff8, sock 0, host 0x0, port 0)

These errors stop (and the servers start talking again) when the application server is restarted.

The application and Web servers are on two seperate boxes. The web server is in our DMZ and the App server in inside our network.

I realize there may be lots of factors that could be causing/contributing to this error. But,can somebody give me an idea of the types of things to look for (firewall routing issue, database connectivity issue, network congestion issue, ...)

      thanks,
      -Mike
