SNMP trap for stuck threads

Hi all,

I would like to setup snmp trap for stuck threads. I am not sure if I need to use log filter/gauge monitor? I do not see any documentation for this information.

Could anyone please advise or point me to the right document.

Thanks in advance

    Hi Shashi_sr,

I would suggest you to use WLST to keep a watch on the threads which can become STUCK threads called Hogger threads. Using the given WLST script in the below link you can get thefollowing feature with it.

    Features Of This Script:

    1. Ready To Use: The Script is ready to use, it means you need not to edit anything in the WLST script except the email address in line-32.
    2. Flexibility: You need to just change the values present in “domains.properties” file like how many Thread Dumps you want to collect when the issue occurs.
    3. E-Mail Alert: The Administrator will get to know regarding the issue via an E-Mail alert immediately.
    4. Thread Dumps In Mail: The complete Thread Dumps will we sent to the Administrator via the E-Mail so need not to worry about collecting the Thread Dumps.
    5. Independent Script: This WLST script can run independently without the help of any Cron-Job utility provided by the operating System (But it can be associated with the Cron-Job utility as well) So it provides more flexibility to the Administrators.

    Thanks Ravish,

I read your blog and very usefull information.

I cannot use the script sent by you in our environment has we have some constraints. Since you have more understnading on snmp could you point on using "Monitored MBean Type:     StuckThreadAction"

For my env, I could only use the snmp trap so I am figuring out to use log filter or gauge monitor. If you could provide any significant info that would be very helpful.

    thanks again

    Great!! thanks

I was bit confused on exactly what the log filter substring, Subsystem Names, Message IDs should be?

I greatly appreciate the time taken to respond to my email.

I hope you could answer this as well. In future if I need to configure trap e.g. of OutOfMemory which doc should I be refering to? for the subsystem names, message ids and substring.

Oh yeah, I should have checked the Weblogic logging Service document before asking. I know where to look now.
