We see frequent abuse of qstat command, overloading the master and slowing down the farm performance and impacting all users.
Is there a way in SGE/OGE to keep qstat usage in check?
If we can dump the qstat output in a manner, that all qstat options still work using the cached output, that will be great.
yes we know, that permanent qstat calls will slowdown the qmaster.
We have some customer having the same problem. Currently I have no solution for this except reducing the qstat calls.
Which veriosn of OGE are you using?
The problem is that a qstat call without specification of the job id will get the complete job list. It would be more performant to specify the job you want to have information for with qstat -j YOUR_JOB_ID. For getting information about hosts you might also use the qhost call.

Thanks for your response. We are using SGE 6.2u6.
If there is any wrapper that can be used as cache, that wil be hellpful.
Woudl it be feasible to control qstat calls via config params? Can request for RFE as it will help with farm performance.
