I am having problems installing the Oracle Client 11g R2 64 bit installation on my Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise machine. The installer does all the checks successfully, it gets me to summary screen and I press finish to start the installation. It then opens the installation mask where it first says Checking whether Central Inventory is locked by another OUI session. After that it very briefly shows Central Inventory is not locked and then the window immediately dissapears with no other errors. I tried installing at my colleague's W7 Enterprise 64 machine and it behaves a little differently but with the same result. Basically on his machine it never even opens the Install mask, when pressing finish from the Summary it just disappears and never starts installation. I tried installing 11g R1 and that loads the first mask and when i press next it just dissapears. I basically need an oracle client 64 bit installation on my machine deperately. Please help. Thanks
Given that this is the ODBC forum, I will assume you simply want to get the 64 bit ODBC drivers installed. I use the files at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win64soft-094461.html and download the “Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Client (184.108.40.206.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64)”. Is this what you are using?
When I do this, I choose the custom install option and check the SQL*Plus, Oracle Net, and Oracle ODBC driver options only.
Also, when it is done, remember that the 64 bit ODBC Administrator in windows only sees the 64 bit ODBC drivers and the 32 bit ODBC Administrator only sees the 32 bit drivers. So make sure you are checking with the correct ODBC Administrator.
Having the same issue here. Which appears to be because I already have the 32 bit client installed. I'm using Windows Server 2008. The goal being to have both the 32 bit and 64 bit clients installed.
I'll try your approach here and see what happens.
I was having a similar problem (mentioned in another thread I'm still looking for to respond), but it would fail (without notice) when selecting "desktop class" (step 3). We found that there was a problem with the included javaw.exe file, so used the following start line in the command line (from wherever setup.exe is located):
setup -jreLoc c:\PROGRA~1\java\jdk1.6.0_25
(Modify to reflect the location of an alternate JRE, like the one I used above.)

I was banging my head against the wall with this upsetting Oracle behaviour, but eventually was able to overcome this.
In my case I needed to have both 32 and 64 bit clients but installing the 32 bit first caused the 64 to constantly disappear after the validation section.
Installing the 64-bit first solved the problem.
I don't know why but it did.
This is definitely a major nuisance and I really hope Oracle will fix it (or at least provide us with some sort of an error message), the installer would disappear on me even when I was just clicking the Browse button to change the installation path.

I'm having the same problem by where the installer just disappears after performing the pre-requisite checks. I had installed the 32 bit client first however, which I've manually removed (to the best of my knowledge) and re-tried the 64 bit installer to no avail. I was using the --ignoreSysPrereqs flag too. Can anyone assist as I've spent hours on this trying to install 1 client??!!
One user above reported installing the 64 bit odbc drivers and then the 32 bit drivers. How did you do that? I'm a neophyte to this.
I'm trying to get a 32 bit ODBC oracle driver to work on a server 2008 R2 machine. I downloaded the 11gR2 x64 client from oracle. The install process makes no mention of 32bit vs 64bit installation. After running the instalation I can run the ODBC administrator and generate a DSN for oracle. When I run the 32 ODBC administrator there is no oracle driver available except the microsoft driver for oracle. When I select that it says that I need to install oracle.
I had at first tried to install 11g instant client. However that didn't work for the 2008 R2 machine. It complained about some registry error when I tried to run the ODBC install program. I need to get it to work for a customer asap.
Got it to work on server 2008 R2:
i) don't use instant client downloads on server 2008 R2, they don't want to work
ii) Remove all prior attempts at installing oracle using deinstall tool and removing oracle registry entries (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE)
ii) Download full client 220.127.116.11.0 for windows x64 and install
iii) download full client 18.104.22.168.0 for windows x86 and install
iv) 64 bit odbc is available under odbc administrator. 32 bit odbc is available under the odbc administrator in the syswow64 directory.

I had previously installed 32 bit client and uninstalling did not help for me. Oracle 11g R2 Client Installer would silently crash (without error, or trace in log files).
I followed these instructions as well as ran setup using an alternate JRE location.
Using: Windows 7 Enterprise.
