I have installed 11g XE on a VM.
I can connect to DB locally on the VM
I can ping VM from the main computer.
However, when I try to connect to the DB from the main computer, I get the following message in SQLDeveloper: "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection".
In SQLPlus, I have: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
Windows 7 ultimate; Oracle VM VirtualBox manager
Hi Igor i have almost the same configuration (windows 7 home premium) and had the same problem. Exit sql developer and try adding your DB's IP address in the windows's host file (C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\).
... and what about your firewall? Is the port for the database listener open? Ping often works per default while TCP ports are usually "closed" and have to be opened to the outside world... I'm not sure about the default configuration in OEL right now, but it might be worth a look. You can easily configure it via +/usr/bin/setup+ (console based)
Thank you for the idea. I have added symbolic names in hosts file and don't use raw IP addresses anymore.
However, main problem is still unsolved. Not being a very Linux man, I work on this Linux VM through PuTTY (copy/paste command line) and WinSCP (file transfer for CodeWright edition, cause I don't like vi and the VM does not have GUI). So, the VM is perfectly atteignable , save for DB.
