When I try to launch ANY and EVERY Java applet, I get this Incompatible magic value 1013478509 error.

This is what happens when I try to launch the Java test:

This is site is for supporting programming applications. It is not a user support site.

If you are a programmer then the following might help.
          java.lang.ClassFormatError: Incompatible magic value 1013478509
Every class file starts with a magic number that allow a VM to verify that the class file is in fact (or at least likely) to be an actual class file.

That value in hex is 0xCAFEBABE

The VM is telling you that it doesn't see that.

The value you do get in hex is 0x3C68746D

In ASCII that is the following

          <htm

That of course looks suspiciously like the start of an html block. An example of that is here.

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML

Some possible reasons for why you see it.
          - Something is wrong in the site that you are testing with.
          - Something is corrupted in your browser.
          - Something is corrupted on your computer related to java (which is not fixed by your install/reinstall.)

Presumably what you tried testing with in the following url. All I can say is that right now when I tried that it worked for me.

          http://java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

It is probably an HTML 404 page. Something wrong with your CODEBASE attribute or the file isn't where it should be.

Hey guys, turns out the problem was Java was blocked on my router.
The other day, I was using my sister's Macbook and it wouldn't run any Java apps either, so I began to search Google to see if it was possible to block Java through the router.
I can't believe it has taken me sooooooooooooooo long to work this out.
              Thanks for your input anyway!
