It's not a Java class in 1.6 so I guess it private sun class? You get a warning from the compiler if you use those and now you know why :).
You'll have to look to see why you used it in the first place and see if you can solve the problem using the official available classes / font config options.

And what should I use instead?
I use it in cases where I request a font that does not exist on the system to find out what font it is mapped to.

hmm, investigating the JDK 6 code it seems it is the sun.java2d.SunGraphicsEnvironment class that triggers the actual loading and registering of fonts. Does this class still exist in Java 7 I wonder? If so it should provide some clues how the font loading has changed.
