      Aloha!

      I have created an instance on 11g R2 and about to import a dump. Upon creating a directory, I stumble upon this error;

      [oracle@ole5 SBAtemp]$ sqlplus sys/Change12345@orc01 as sysdba

      SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.1.0 Production on Fri Sep 23 19:30:33 2011

      Your advise and comment is greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance.

          What about 'alter database open;' ? Maybe the database has a problem and can't be opened.

                I have tried the v$instance and I got an error, sorry i cant post the result now since im on mobile. I'll post it later, but let say the DB is close(since im receiving an error prompt when I ran the v$instance), how can i open it?

                Thanks for your time.

                Hades,

                  try this ...

                  $ sqlplus sys/Change12345@orc01 as sysdba

                  SQL> shut immediate

                  SQL>startup

                  and to check the instance status :

                  SQL> select status from v$instance;

                  let me know the result (in case correct or helpful mark it so that this thread can be close)
