Database backup failing with Backup completed with status "communications f

    445312
      Hi,

I have OSB 10.3 administrative domain installed on Linux 64 bit server and OSB 10.3 client installed on database server (also Linux 64bit).

When running database backup from either Database control (eg. tape backup test) , or by issuing rman commands I get the following errors in the OSB job log:

2010/04/28.14:49:31 Backup completed with status "communications failure with client".
           2010/04/28.14:49:31 (Diagnostic data: 0x20008F06/21, dev_delay 0, data_delay 900, fail, data_err.)
2010/04/28.14:49:31 Job completed with state 0.
2010/04/28.14:49:31 Dispatching job to run on administrative server.
2010/04/28.14:49:34 Backup completed with status "communications failure with client".
           2010/04/28.14:49:34 (Diagnostic data: 0x20008F06/21, dev_delay 0, data_delay 900, fail, data_err.)
2010/04/28.14:49:35 Job completed with state 0.
2010/04/28.14:49:35 Dispatching job to run on administrative server.

pingh from obtool on administrative domain to client works OK, and also from Client to administrative domain. Devices are recognised, and mounted correctly and in service.

I have defined preauth access for admin user on administrative server.

Please can you help me with this issue? What is the problem? Can I find some more information in any logs?

      Thank you

Can you post the output from the pingh and also "obtool lsh -l"?

I suspect it couldn't properly communicate with the client, so it only added it with NDMP access (port 10000) instead of also having port 400 (OSB).

A firewall or another application using port 400 will cause that.

          Thanks

Why port 400 ? Is this the default port ? I have Apache (another one beside OSB Apache) running on administrative server, maybe it's causing issues...

            Thanks,

            Ivan

              I wouldn't think it's a port issue since on client server :

              Starting nmap 3.70 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) at 2010-05-07 11:06 CEST
              Interesting ports on localhost (127.0.0.1):
(The 1651 ports scanned but not shown below are in state: closed)
              PORT STATE SERVICE
              22/tcp open ssh
              25/tcp open smtp
              111/tcp open rpcbind
              113/tcp open auth
              400/tcp open work-sol
              631/tcp open ipp
              926/tcp open unknown
              1521/tcp open oracle
              10000/tcp open snet-sensor-mgmt
              Device type: general purpose

              Am I correct?

                Hi ,

I have reinstalled OSB on both servers and changed setup in the following way :

                1) Administrative server on the database server (instead of client as previously)
                2) Media server on server with tape drive (instead of administrative server as previously)

It seems more logical anyway, and more importantly it works. So it seems this issue will go unresolved.

                Regards,

                Ivan
