    arabic lost in import!

      Dear All,

I am facing a strange scenario. While importing data from one computer to another, I am getting junk characters instead of proper arabic. The environment is:

      SOURCE LAPTOP:
      Windows XP
      Oracle 10g installed locally
Data have Arabic information which is displaying normally in SQL/Plus, Toad and in Reports as this machine also have Oracle Dev. Suite 10g.
Using Export utility I did export just one table which contains arabic data. While export the messages regarding character set are:
Export done in AR8MSWIN1256 character set and UTF8 NCHAR character set
server uses AR8ISO8859P6 character set (possible charset conversion)
.................. Export done successfuly without warning.

      DESTINATION LAPTOP:
      Windows 7 Pro
      Oracle 10g installed locally
Using Import utility I did import using full=y option for above exported file. While import the messages regarding character set are:
Import done in AR8MSWIN1256 character set and UTF8 NCHAR character set
server uses AR8ISO8859P6 character set (possible charset conversion)
.................. Import done successfuly without warning.

It looks all good but when I check in SQL/Plus the arabic data shows like junk characters.

One point may be imported to note that when I insert single record using direct command in SQL/Plus in SOURCE laptop it is showing arabic in notepad (afiedt.buf) normally and also inserting successfully but on the other hand when I try to insert single row in same way in DESTINATION laptop, it is showing normal arabic in notepad (afiedt.buf) but unable to save due to 'ANSI' encoding problem and therefor showing junk even in insert command in sql/plus. Is it something to do with operating system???

      Please help.

      Regards,
      Zia
