Content Delivery or Site Management Tools?

I have just found out that there is no translation functionality with the SMT, we're building a multi language site so need this ability. has anyone else come across this and if so did you find a workable solution?

Or is my only option to go with Content delivery as this doe have the ability to provide the translation / localization we need?

Be interested in other peoples approach for this?
