Lengthy Durations for NS SOAP Responses - Alternatives?

We have an existing integration between our software application and NetSuite, based upon SOAP requests. There are two scheduled synchs that occur: every 5 minutes, and on a nightly basis. One of the major issues that we are experiencing is related to the amount of time required to receive a response from NetSuite after the initial request is sent. The web services method we are using is based on a standard NetSuite user license. How many concurrent sessions are allowed with this license type? I have read in some places that it is 10, however, maybe this requires a special
