Projects snapshot by date

I'm looking to create a saved search that can show a snapshot of Projects and their statuses.  For instance, the search would give us the ability to compare projects and their statuses from last month to projects and their statuses from this month.  New projects, completed projects and projects placed on hold during a specific period.

Any ideas?
