After record submit script - not fired when a field is set through workflow

Hello NetSuite experts,

I am trying to set a field value A in sales order (upon entry, or before/after record submit, etc..) using a workflow. There is a script A that should run after a field value A is set. Script A is dependent on this field value. Also script only runs after the record is saved. Can i use workflow to set the field value or do i have to use a script to set the value for script A to run?
