IR from RMA - Want no GL impact when not restocking

Help! There must be a way to receive an RMA, not restock the item, and not have any GL impact. We are asking the customer to return the item so that we can inspect it for quality issues --- we do not want NS to show any financial impact unless we check the box to restock the item. I have not been able to figure out how to accomplish this.... many thanks!!!
