Workflow triggered by inline/quick edits?

I have a custom search portlet listing cases. In this portlet (or even the case list), it is possible to edit the Assigned To field.  I was hoping this would trigger my workflow action which uses an On Field Edit trigger with the Assigned To field as the parameter. It's supposed to change the value of another field on the same record but it didn't.

If I open the case and edit Assigned To, the workflow fires fine.

Is there anyway with workflows to make this work?


I also intend to set the value of a checkbox with this and changing the value of that checkbox should trigger other actions.
