Condition on Company:Type not working

I've created a workflow on contact creation to set a field value conditionally based on the Company:Type.  If {Company:Type Is Customer} then set a field.

The contact is created by hitting new contact from a customer record so there is a Company associated with the contact however this condition does not function and always evaluates to false.

I thought that perhaps the company record was not fully associated with the new contact until it is saved but using the condition {Company:Sales Rep Is Not Empty} while keeping all other workflow settings works just fine.

Any thoughts?  Thanks all.
