Updating Fields from a WorkFlow Does not Work

Good afternoon.

I created a Workflow that adds previous Purchase Order Total to the New Purchase Order total to keep a running total on how much technicians have spent in the field to combat rising costs.

The Workflow works as needed.

However, Netsuite is saying that one cannot update a current record using Workflow Action--Go To Record--even though the Help File says you can.

Does anyone have a work around to this situation?

I am thinking scripting might work.
