Store documents via HyperLinks rather than NS file cabinet

I need to store documents on a file server outside of NetSuite and need to be able to insert a hyperlink on the customer record.  How would I accomplish this ??

While attending the Intro to NetSuite training class the instructor indicated this was possible but I didn't take note at the time.
