Should a RA be created from SO or Invoice?

Is there any reason to prefer initiating a RA from the SO or the Invoice? I know the SO is the "heart" of the transaction, but intuitively it seems like an RA comes out of an invoice because that's the actual receivable for what was shipped.

Any suggestions?
