Duplicate Detection Question

We have our duplicate detection for customers setup by domain name... but it fails to recognize duplicates for non-US domains.  For example, two entities listed as "domain.de" will not be matched as potential duplicates.  Is this intentional to ignore domains that don't end in .com, .net, .org, etc.?

Another question... anybody know of an enhancement request to allow duplicate detection by a custom field?
