Sales order approval based on created by NOT Sales Rep

I am looking to change how our sales orders are approved.  We currently have about 6 departments that can place a sales order but only 2 departments are sales reps.  When a user places an order for a customer I would like it to go to their supervisor instead of the sales rep for the customers supervisor. 

Any ideas?
