Error msg 'FIFO and LIFO cost items may not be used on a work in process work order'

I have a serialized assembly item with the costing method set to specific. It has 2 components which are inventory items with the costing method set to average cost. However when i create a work order for the serialized assembly and click WIP and save I get the error 'FIFO and LIFO cost items may not be used on a work in process work order'

I don't see a config issue but obviously am missing something. Reaching out to anyone out there who can help? Thanks
