This record cannot be deleted because it has dependent records. *annoying

i created a custom record.   created a task.
i used a workflow action   'subscribe to record'

now i cannot delete the task.   i do not want to delete my custom record.  it's like an invisible link where i cannot break.
how do i unsubscribe to record?   so i can delete this task.
