Preferred Vendor CSV Import

I am having the hardest time changing the preferred vendor on an item using csv imports.  I tried at least a dozen different ways to change it but the best I have been able to do is add an additional vendor.  Has anyone else ran into this?
When i do the field mapping, I added a vendor, set them to preferred and add a purchase price.  The vendor was added but it wasn't set to preferred. 
Any help would be appreciated.
