Sales Order and automated scripts

Is it possible to create a script that will send an email to the customer depending on the item that was ordered?  We have links to install videos that we would like to send automatically when a customer purchases a particular item.  We were doing this manually, but many customers were being forgotten about.  We really need an automated process.
