Hide ALL Costs from Employees

Is there a way to hide ALL cost data from Employees based on their role ? 

We have already taken care of the obvious changes by using a custom Item screen, but cost data is still visible through certain reports and searches.

Per our NetSuite functional consultant -- the only way this can be blocked is to turn OFF the Global Search functionality, but this is widely used by our employees; therefore, it is not a good solution.

It seems that hiding COST data from employees would have universal appeal to business owners.  Am I alone in this view ???

Any help would be appreciated.
