Last customer per item search.

I'm trying to create a search that will list all of our items and the last customer who bought that item.  It's a transaction search (so that both item and customer fields are avaialble).

Right now I have a search showing all transactions with the appropriate item and customer fields but I need criteria that will limit the transactions to max date (or something like that).

I really need to take a course on formulas.
