Simple Job Report

Is there no way to run a simple job report? For example, jobs open, jobs by status or percent complete? We do not have advanced job module (nor are we interested in paying for it). We just want to use the basic out-of-the-box Job record to track some various events that have start and end dates and be able to process orders and cases against it if necessary. Seems easy enough but I can not find any reports that just tell me how many of a certain job are open, closed, in progress, etc. This seems insane that something this
