Reports VS Saved Searches

What are the major differences between Saved Searches and Reports?
I pull most of the data for our departments and I always use Saved Searches. Our Accounting Department always uses Reports.

Is it true that Saved Searches can do everything a Report can do, but Reports can not do everything a Saved Search can do?

If you have some ideas\suggestions\comments on the differences and best practices for when to use either I would really like to hear them.
