Total of Opportunity Line Items in Opportunity Field

Ok, so I'm trying to automatically grab the total of my opportunity line items into a field in the opportunity, separated by category.

For Instance, I'd have a "Hardware" Field that would total up Items A, B and C selected in the items list. 

I currently have these fields set to be manual entry, but I heard a rumor that there was some script or a function that I can enter to achieve that result.
