How do we default the footer filter in saved search results?

I have a saved search that has a "date" filter in the footer.  It defaults to show ALL sales since day 1 in NetSuite.  How can I change the default to default to show today's sales?

I can't set the "saved search" filter to filter to "sales date = today" because that makes the footer date filter (displayed when viewing search results) get zero results unless we set it to "date = today".
