Connection Reset Error

I'm using Java and Apache Axis 1.4 for webservices...

On the Sandbox account the following error has been happening
periodically. In this case I had sent a list of 96 sub-customers to be deleted when it failed with this error.

The 96 sub-customers had in fact been deleted from the Netsuite Sandbox - but because it failed with this error - I didn't get any status information back to tell me the results of each of those delete operations.

How can I avoid this error (are there some settings/configuration I can change?) and/or is there a way of recovering and finding the results in the event of it failing?
