Transaction Search using a Custom List Value

I've been playing around with searching for Sales Orders via web services. One of the criteria that I would like to use is a Custom List/Record value that is on the Sales Order.

I have tried SearchMultiSelectCustomField as well as a ListOrRecordRef for the search criteria, but I can't seem to get any results to come back. I can specify the the internal id of the list, but I am unsure of how to specify the value in the list that I want to use.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to proceed?
