Know Nothing about Web Services...

Hi,

I am using an outside receiving apparatus i want to compare against my Inventory Items.   I am selling DVD, CD's, Books and other Media.   I am looking for a way to check to see if a UPC exists in my item database and return a simple True or False based on check on UPC from an outside piece of software.

Any idea on how on what would be the best and easiest way to do this via XML or some other internet based check?
